I had purchased a book titled "Wise Trees" The goal was to use this book to provide inspiration to get my creative side moving again since I have been pretty blocked since last year. This book is full of amazing photographs of culturally or historically significant trees.
The Wedding Oak has been recognized with a State of Texas Historical Marker. The Comanche Indians chose this tree as site for council meetings, and it also served as a sacred venue for couples to exchange their wedding vows. Legend has it that they believed the tree to have magical powers to bless their wedding and ensure an everlasting and trusting relationship between the couple. In the mid-1800’s, early white settlers learned about the alleged powers of the wedding oak and began exchanging their vows there as well.
Once I finished this piece I thought how much it looked like an old postcard - that triggered me to remember all the antique postcards my Grammie sent me that I had not done anything with. So I dug them out of a storage box and put them in an album - there are 343 of them. Now I have a new project - painting some of these old postcards.
